Preta is a romantic young woman born in Maranhão, with a good character and a sense of humor. She was raised by Dona Lita (Solange Couto), her mother, and has never met her father. Despite her sad past she is uresentful, always sees the bright side of life and works her ways to survive. Since a young girl she has helped her mother by selling medicinal herbs from a little tent downtown in São Luís, capital of Maranhão. When she is not working she dances the typical tambor de crioula with her friends or goes out to have fun with her best friend Helinho (Matheus Nachtergaele). Just like Paco, Preta has never fallen in love and also maintains an insipid relationship with Dodô, the musician (Jonathan Haagensen). When Paco shows up in São Luis, Preta is absolutely sure he is the man of her life. Even against her mother‘s will - who does not believe the good intentions of the carioca young man - Preta decides to live this love. Preta is victimized by Bárbara‘s dirty move to keep her away from Paco. Preta hears about Paco‘s death in a car accident on his way back to Rio de Janeiro, as the news are broadcasted. She is struck with sadness and overcomes it only by discovering she‘s carrying the seed of the greatest love of her life. Preta decides to raise her son Raí by herself, counting only on the help of her mother and Helinho, without looking for Paco‘s family
